Jesus…was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days to be tempted by the devil.  Lk. 4:1

Lord, from the very beginning of your mission to save your people you were tempted by Satan to turn away from the cross and pursue earthly riches, glory and power.   While you were fasting in the desert you were in communion with your Father and the Holy Spirit.  How did your forty days of prayer strengthen you for the trials to come?  You would go on to battle the devil and his lies until your ultimate victory over death on Good Friday.   You turned to the wisdom of scripture to guide you in your testing.  May I commit to daily reflection on your word during my journey in the desert of Lent.  You prayed to your Father to understand his plan to bring mankind back to himself.  May I seek his will in everything I think, say and do.  You were strengthened by the Holy Spirit not to give into temptations.  May I live out my Baptism anointing and rely on your Spirit when I am weak.  Be with me, Lord, when I am tested.  During my time in the desert of Lent bring me closer to you.  Amen.
