Joel 2:12-18

Psalm 51

2 Corinthians 5:20-6:2

Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart…  Joel 2:12

Behold, now is a very acceptable time; behold now is the day of salvation.  2 Cor 6:2

Lord, we have a hymn with a verse that goes like this: “The wilderness will lead you to the place where I will speak”.  I’ve noticed during the times when I’ve sat quietly in a forest how I can hear the birds clearly, the wind rustling the leaves and animals calling to one another.  Lord, this Lent help me to go into the forest wilderness each day to listen for your voice.  I know you want to speak to me.  I know you want to pull me closer to yourself.  I know you want me to let go of whatever is blocking my heart from receiving your love and grace.  Lord, this Lent I will make myself available to you each day to listen with the ears of my heart.  Lead me into the desert away from busyness and distraction to be yours alone.  Train me, Lord, to hear your voice in a line of scripture, a powerful prayer of praise or in the silence.  I give you, Lord, the alms of my attention and time to be filled up with your peace.  Speak Lord, your servant is listening.  Amen.
