2 Corinthians 1:18-22

Psalm 119

Matthew 5:13-16

“You are the salt of the earth.”  Matthew 5:13

Lord, how am I salt?  What do you wish me to learn about you and myself today?  Salt was an extremely important compound in the ancient world.  Its many uses made it valuable and essential.  Its abundance today makes it almost the least expensive item in the grocery.  Salt flavors our food making it more attractive.  How can I be more salty?  Like salt, I am precious, important, and valuable to you.  Lord, may I live out attractive qualities like kindness, cheerfulness, thoughtfulness and helpfulness. May I approach joy and sorrow, success and failure with a positive attitude.  Dear Jesus, with your grace I can react to setbacks and disappointments as challenges and opportunities to give you glory.  Our world is so in need of the flavor or your presence to bring us back to you.  As your disciple I can be salt for someone today who is lonely, lost or without hope. I can season the life of one of your children with the awareness of the love which you have for all of them.  Amen
