Psalm 29

Acts of the Apostles 10:34-38

Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

“He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”  Lk. 3:16

“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”  Lk. 3:22

Lord, how powerful is the image of the Spirit descending on you and the Father speaking encouraging words from heaven as you stood in the waters of the Jordan River. The Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit was visible and real to all those who were present. It would have been awesome to be there and see the plan of God being fulfilled. Yet the same Trinity was present just as powerfully and real at my Baptism.  Every time I witness a child Baptized in our church the same grace and fire is present. Sacred gifts are given, sin is washed away, and salvation is offered at every Baptism. I believe that our Heavenly Father is pleased with every child or adult Baptized. We so need the grace of this sacrament because we cannot save ourselves. Our only hope is for God in his kindness and mercy to save us by the Holy Spirit poured out on us.  I’m so grateful to my parents for bringing me to the new life of Baptism so many years ago.  Lord, please help me to live this new life today so you can continue to “be pleased” with me as a member of His family.  Amen.
