Haggai 2:1-9

Psalm 43

Luke 9:18-22

“But who do you say that I am?” Lk. 9:20

Lord, since childhood I have been taught who you are.  I can recite catechism answers about your divinity and humanity.  I can tell about when you were born, how you grew up, what you did during your days on earth.  I can relate how you died and rose again to life.  All these are facts that come from head knowledge.  But they don’t truly say anything about who you are to me.  How do the eyes of my heart see you?  What do you see when you look into my soul?   How well do I really know you?  I know you care about me whether I am a sinner or a saint.  You love me even when I am not at all lovable.  You died for me just so I can live eternally with you in your heavenly kingdom.  You only want the best for me and sometimes that involves lessons in discipline and tough love.  But in the end you are my Lord and my God and I want nothing,–nothing to come between you and me, ever.  I want to have you as close to me as my own beating heart.  Amen
