1 Kings 18:20-39

Psalm 16

Matthew 5:17-19

Elijah appealed to all the people and said, “How long will you straddle the issue?” 1 Kings 17:21

Answer me that this people may know that you, Lord are God… 1 Kings 18:37

Lord, how often do we lose our way?  How do our priorities and what we hold as truly important get messed up? The people had abandoned you and sought after idols and false gods. This dramatic show of power woke them up as to who you were. The real miracle here, Lord, is the faith Elijah had in you. He trusted you’d hear his humble prayer and answer. His life depended on your answer because the wicked King and Queen wanted him dead. I confess, Lord, my faith falls short of that of your prophet. And sometimes I lose my way like the people did. I sometimes “straddle the issue” instead of taking a stand for you. But you came among us to change that. You are our Father’s answer to Elijah’s prayer and mine too. I am so grateful to you for all you do for me. All the ways you continually draw me to yourself. My prayer today is for greater faith in your presence and power in my life. I am ready to depend on you like Elijah did for everything. You set a priority for me of obedience to God’s commandments and the teaching of them to my children and others.  Amen
