March 25, 2020 THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD – A

Isaiah 7:10-14, 8:10

Psalm 40

Hebrews 10: 4-10

Luke 1:26-38

“Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord.  May it be done to me according to your word.” Lk 1:38

With these words all of salvation history was established. Mary’s “yes” to the message of the angel came from her complete acceptance of the will of God. We are called to a similar ideal.  What made Mary ready for such a complete and ready agreement with God’s will?  Mary was prepared by praying the Psalms for one thing. And for another she was also full of grace and not corrupted by sin in any way. There was only “Yes’s” within her in answer to God. I like to think she may have prayed Psalm 40 the morning of the angel’s visit.  Read it again. She would have said “each verse with Love and obedience in her heart. Lord, make clear to me your will today. Prepare me for the challenges of this day by opening my ears to obedience. Read the Psalm again as I want to be a Yes to all your ways. “To do your will O Lord is my delight.” O Lord, write your law within my heart.  Amen
