“I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.” It is believed on average we make about 35,000 decisions in any given day. The thought of having to make that many choices in a day is exhausting… small, medium, large, extra large, supersize it please; soup, salad, rice, veggies, double fries please; hot, cold, iced, double latte, no ice please. I’ll take this one, no that one, two of those and one of those to go please. We make so many choices concerning ourselves and our families. Choices that influence us and those around us. Choices that affect those we love and even those we don’t care for.  Choices that will have a significant impact on our future, our friends, our neighbors, even on those we wish to keep distant.  Who should I befriend? Who should I date? Who should I marry? Should I marry? What career will I choice? How much money do I need? Where will I live? What color? What flavor? Do I want to go to work today? Should I get a ride, take the bus or walk? Do I want God in my life? Do I want to practice religion? Should I pray today? Should I turn at the light, stop on the way or keep going? So many things to discern, so many options to consider, so many choices to make. For some of us, the process can be exciting and for others depressing. For some of us, the more choices there are the better it is and still for others the fewer choices there are the easier it is. So how do you make your choices on any given day? Who do you consult, what do you consider, how much time do you need? Do you make your choices by what feels good to you today, do you consider the weather, do you let others make the decision for you, do you take it to prayer? So many choices to consider – so many decisions to make. Do you consider how your choices will impact your future? Do you think about how your decisions will affect others? Will your choices lead you to heaven or will they lead you to eternal darkness? The gift of discernment requires patience, prayer and trust in God. He will always provide, he has always provided, he will continue to do so. Turn to God always – choose God every time. He is the right choice – the best decision you will ever make.
