“Brothers and sisters: Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you and the temple of God, which you are, is holy?” I think it’s easy for us to forget that in baptism we truly became the temple of God – God’s holy dwelling place. It’s hard to imagine that God wants to dwell in us especially when we are such sinners, filled with such darkness, filled with lust and greed. Yet God does not look at our appearances, God looks into our hearts. God loves us and desires to dwell in us – every single one of us. Have you ever imagine what the temple inside your heart looks like? What does God’s holy dwelling in you look like? What kind of a structure is it? Does it have stained-glass windows? What about the inside? Is it filled with light? Are there candles in your sanctuary burning brightly? Is there a fragrance of incense burning the sweet aroma of your interior prayer? Brothers and sisters: “The temple of God, which you are, is holy” – so be holy as the Lord our God is holy – “be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.” O Lord, I consider your mighty presence filling the sanctuary within my own heart. You fill it with your light, you fill it with your love, you fill it so abundantly with your life.  May the sweet aroma of prayer fill this temple.  May it enlighten my mind and fill up my senses. O Lord, you have opened my eyes, you have consecrated my heart.  The fire of your Holy Spirit consumes me – please make me your holy dwelling place. O Lord, make me more fully and purely into your holy dwelling place.  Fill me, flood me, penetrate me with your Holiness, with your perpetual life, with your sacrificial love, with eternal happiness. O Lord, purify me with the fire of your love. Set me on fire with your ever consuming love.  May your loving presence heal me, strengthen me and fill me with your amazing grace.  May my prayers rise up to you O Lord like incense – may it fill this temple in my heart and may your tender love help me to dwell with you forever.  Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Thine.
