James 2:1-5

Mark 7:31-37

Then will the eyes of the blind be opened…then the tongue of the mute will sing. Is. 35:5-6

And immediately the man’s ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed… Mk. 7:35

Lord, I often wonder what did those you performed miracles of healing for do with the rest of their lives.  You gave this man his life back.  He could hear the sound of laughter, the song of a bird or a musical melody.  He could speak words of love, encouragement and hope to others who were suffering.  This man could also hear your words in scripture and could inform others about the mighty works of God.  You opened his ears and hopefully his heart as well.  Those of us who can hear can be deaf to your life-changing word.  We may be able to speak but remain silent in the face of injustice.  Lord, give me the ears of faith so your holy word can inspire and change me.  May your words of encouragement help me, in turn, to encourage others to receive your truth and love.  May I slow down a bit from the busyness of life and let your word penetrate my heart and my spirit.  May I use your gift of speech to tell someone today of your love for them.  Jesus, say to me “Ephphatha!”  and open my heart to you.  Amen.
