September 11, 2017 Monday of the 23rd Week in Ordinary Time-A
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Psalm 96
Luke 4:16-30
“…is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath rather than to do evil…?” Luke 6:9
Lord, it’s really amazing how two people looking at the same incident can have such different descriptions of it. All the Pharisees’ focus was on finding evidence that you couldn’t be from God. Their hearts were closed to the good you did for the man suffering from a disability. But you wanted to show us the priority of healing and relieving others from suffering comes before Sabbath regulations. The Pharisees were all about strict observance of hundreds of laws and regulations. You were all about restoring health and caring for every one of your children. Lord, I don’t know how much Pharisee is in my heart. I think my priorities can become off target at times. Help me to see the big picture as you do and to make the right choices in observing the law and caring for my fellow man. May I obey your law of love as my guide. There is no law greater than that. Amen.
