Ephesians 4:1-6

Psalm 24

Luke 12:54-59

…bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the spirit… Eph. 6:3

Lord, we in our country are soon going to the polls to choose the men and women who will represent us in national, state and local government.  There is a whole lot of words being said by all sides that seem to highlight differences between the candidates.  On the surface there doesn’t seem to be the unity that Paul urges on the Ephesians.  We are tempted to close our minds and tightly grasp our political positions and refuse to listen to opposing viewpoints.  Lord, forgive our lack of unity and our impatience with one another.  Help us to remember the important principles of our founding and the civil discourse that can lead to solutions to our problems.   There is more that unites us than divides us.  We are all children of our heavenly Father.  We are all called to hope in the Spirit to guide us in all decisions and vocations in life.  Show us the possibility that there is more than one way to solve an issue.  I thank you for the freedom we have to vote and govern in this land.  May we all vote responsibly and may your will be done.  Amen.
