Philippians 1:18-26
Psalm 42
Luke 14:1, 7-11
“…the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” Lk. 14:11
Lord, it must have been quite a sight to see the dinner guests seeking their place of honor at the banquet. I think that is called the pecking order in the animal kingdom. You didn’t care about social etiquette but you used this occasion to teach us about humility. As the Son of the eternal Father, where was your place in their hearts? Being too prideful and arrogantly putting ourselves above others shows the wrong behavior in the kingdom. In your kingdom, you choose the humble and gentle of heart in place of the self-righteous. Lord, I am one child among many seeking entry into your kingdom. You have a plan for my life and have given me certain talents and opportunities to bear fruit for you in this world. Let me not be concerned about any earthly rewards or honors. Keep me focused on the reward you have saved for me. Instead of competing with my brothers and sisters teach me to cooperate with them in service of you and those in need. Jesus, meek and humble of heart make my heart like unto thine. Amen.
