Romans 9:1-5
Psalm 147
Luke 14:1-6
“Is it lawful to cure on the Sabbath or not”? Lk 14:3
Lord, you exposed the up-side-down priorities of the people at that dinner. Because of their rigid observance of the Sabbath laws they were silenced when you asked them about healing the man with a horrible disease. Of course, you could have avoided the controversy by healing the man the next day. But you wanted to teach and encourage them to put helping people ahead of inflexible following of religious practices. Lord, we set up our priorities all the time. Sometimes my priorities can be up-side-down. I can choose to use my spare time in selfish ways or helping out my neighbor with removing tree debris from his yard. I can choose to use my spare money to buy luxuries or to assist the poor. I can choose to leave the talents you’ve given me undeveloped and wasted rather than for the betterment of my family. Help me, today, Jesus, to put love and mercy at the top of my priority list. I have a feeling you will soon be giving me opportunities to put your truth into practice. May I see you in those you place in my life. Amen.
