Titus 3:1-7

Psalm 23

Luke 17:11-19

“Stand up and go, your faith has saved you.”  Lk. 17:19

Lord, the lepers could not approach you because of their disease.  They had to shout from a distance to get your attention and appeal for your pity and mercy.  After they had been cleansed by your word one returned to give you thanks.  Because you had cured him he could now approach you and kneel at your feet.  Lord, these lepers didn’t earn your favor.  There was nothing they could do to merit your pity.  You healed them out of the goodness of your heart.  The one who returned received a bonus: salvation because he had faith.  His faith was expressed by his gratitude.  Lord Jesus, I too am in need or cleansing.  The effects of my sins linger in my life and I cry out in a loud voice for your mercy.  Hear my prayer today for I too have no way of earning eternal life.  I pray for a constant spirit of thanksgiving for the abundant life you shower upon me.  Please hear my prayer and have pity on me.  Amen.
