Beloved, we are God’s children now… 1 John 3:2
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Mt. 5:9
Lord, were those who are gathered around your throne in heaven perfect on earth? I don’t think so. They were imperfect sinners like me. How did they arise above the darkness of sin and join you in heaven forever? They gave up their sins to you and allowed you to wash them clean with your precious blood. Was it easy? I don’t think so. But one quality I bet they all had was that they worked at being peacemakers. You gave all your children your peace and called us to be peaceful people in a very violent and cruel world. The violence continues on large and small scales, among nations and among family members. When I don’t give into the ways of the world and instead stand up for peace I am becoming a saint. When I strive to restore peace in relationships that are strained, I am being your saintly child. I believe that when I work for peace I am united with all the peacemakers in heaven. Knowing that I don’t have to be perfect to be a saint gives me hope and peace. May all the saints in heaven pray for us today and always. Amen.
