James 4:1-10

Psalm 55

Mark 9:30-37

Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.  James 4:10

“If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.”  Mk. 9:35

Lord, I’ve noticed how happy and peaceful truly humble people are.   I come away from them wondering what they know that I don’t.  The standards of the world promote power, control and being number one.  Your standards, which you taught your disciples, promote honest submission to the will of the Father and service toward one another.  We need great men and women to lead, to build and to accomplish big things in our world.  But you would teach them to admit all they are and all they do come from God and that they are to be “servant” leaders who aren’t consumed by their importance.  Lord, left on my own I cannot achieve the humility and the attitude of servant hood you call me to.  I need your help.  Show me how to depend on your Spirit for every accomplishment, every good deed and every act of love.  Mold me to put others ahead of me.  Teach me to surrender myself to you in order to achieve greatness in your eyes.  Thank you, dear Jesus, for being the example of a true servant and son of the Father.  Amen.
