Acts of the Apostles 1:15-17, 20-26

Psalm 113

John 15:9-17

Therefore, it is necessary that one of these men…become with us a witness… Acts 1:21-22

“…I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain.”  John 15:16

Lord, replacing Judas was clearly a priority for the disciples following your Ascension into heaven.   After gathering in prayer, St. Matthias was chosen from among those who were witnesses to your life, death and resurrection.  It was “necessary” to choose someone to carry on your commandment to bear fruit in the world.  This shows me that all our contributions to the body of Christ are important.  No one else on earth has my unique gifts, experiences and heart.  If I don’t bear fruit for you in your kingdom who will?  My love of you, dear Jesus, moves me to work to live the good news that you are alive and present in our world.  Along with millions of brothers and sisters, we testify that you love every one of us.  It can sometimes be tempting to think that someone else will do what you’ve called me to do.  Or I can believe I am unworthy or not smart enough or not ready.  Lord, like the Apostles I pray to you for the wisdom and courage to make good decisions and choices that honor you.  St. Matthias, pray for us.  Amen.
