Rather, he emptied himself… Phil. 2:7

“…but not what I will but what you will.”  Mk. 14:36

Lord, most of the time “emptying” ourselves is not our first choice.  We are trained and conditioned in life to be filled up with the good things we desire.  We set our priorities based on what we want and must do to live.  This week we recall how you gave away everything.  You were acclaimed as king and savior on Sunday.  The cries of “Hosanna” became “crucify him” in a few short days.  They found no room for you in their hearts because they were filled with sin.  But you gave yourself to the will of your Father.  You gave yourself to fulfill the purpose for which you came among us.  Dear Jesus, help me to empty myself of anything that opposes you.  Guide me to set my priorities according to the Father’s will for me.   May I surrender to the grace of obedience to your word.  Lord, keep me close to you and never, ever let me deny you.  As I follow you to the cross this week, may I keep in mind that beyond Calvary lies the empty tomb.  By staying faithful I too will be “greatly exalted” like you.  Amen.
