Joseph, her husband, since he was a righteous man… Mt. 16:19

Lord, your word today holds forth for us two men, living thousands of years apart, who believed in the unbelievable.  Abraham was promised many descendants even though he and his wife were beyond child-bearing age.  Abraham believed.  Joseph was promised all would be well if he would take Mary into his home even though the standards of his day demanded an end to their relationship.  Joseph believed.  Both were known as “righteous” men.  They made choices based on their strong faith and trust in God.  O Lord, if only I had such faith!  I desire to live by faith in everything I think, say and do.  I want to see with the eyes of faith so I can watch your plan unfold for my life and my family.  Abraham and Joseph probably didn’t understand how things would turn out or how the impossible would become possible.  I don’t understand a lot either, Lord.  But I will obey and trust you will make me righteous too.   May this Lent be a time of openness to you and to all you want for me.  May I not be afraid to say “yes” to you.  St. Joseph pray for us.  Amen.
