“The greatest among you must be your servant.” Matthew 23:11
Lord, we all love a pat on the back. Honor and recognition for what we do in our careers or in our communities is a normal part of life and usually not a bad thing. In your word today you encourage us to have a servant attitude in all we do. Prideful seeking of praise is not what being a disciple is all about. You call us to humility and lives of service. Let me today, Lord, look at what needs to change in my life to be more like you who are the model of humble service. Help me to resist the temptation to exalt myself at the expense of someone else and to give credit where credit is due. Guide me to seek true greatness in your kingdom by using the opportunities you will provide to lift up those around me. Show me, Lord, the path you wish for me to walk for without you I can do nothing. Like John the Baptist, may you increase as I decrease. Amen.
