Psalm 48

Matthew 7:6, 12-14

“Enter through the narrow gate…”  Mt. 7:13

Lord, when driving across the country the interstate highway system is the easiest and quickest way to go.   It is much more direct than narrow country roads with poor maintenance and lots of twists and turns.  The road to eternity, however, is not wide, smooth and easy.  You warn us that to reach heaven with you we must let go of the baggage of pride, selfishness and apathy that keep us from entering the gate.  The cross is always before us as we live as your disciples.  But you don’t make us travel alone.  You offer abundant life and encouragement along the way.  Lord, you provide a sense of direction by your word so we don’t get lost.  You even became one of us to show us how to embrace the will of the Father in all things.  Dear Jesus, help me to avoid the dead ends and detours along the way that only make the road to you harder.  I hear you when you tell me to treat others as I want to be treated.  I thank you for being my traveling companion.   Never allow me to be lost.  Amen.
