2 Corinthians 4:7-15

Psalm 116

Matthew 5:27-32

We are afflicted in every way…but not destroyed; 2 Cor. 4:8, 10

“If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away…” Mt. 5:29

Lord, one of the treatments for cancer is to remove the tumor from out body.  Surgery can involve taking out a lung, a breast or even parts of our digestive system.  We are better off without those parts of our body that are diseased.  You say the same thing about sin.  You so hate sin in us that you say we are better off without that part of us that leads us to sin against you and against each other.   To preserve our life in you, we must leave behind those thoughts that lead us to sin.  We must discipline ourselves to pray rather than use your name in vain.  We must not go near the internet if we use it to view pornography.  We must avoid water-cooler gossip and take our breaks elsewhere.   Lord, it’s hard to avoid the temptations of this world because they are all around us.  But we can live the abundant life you won for us on the cross without whatever leads us to sin.  Lord, I ask you to remove whatever is unhealthy for me in body or spirit.  Show me today what spiritual surgery is needed in my life.  Amen.
