…he learned obedience from what he suffered… Heb. 5:8
Lord, throughout life we try very hard to avoid as much suffering as possible. When trials come upon us we seek ways to overcome them. Most of us realize that we can become stronger and wiser as we endure and deal with trouble. Our scripture verse today informs us that you too grew and became submissive and obedient as you endured the tribulations of human life. You surrendered to the will of your Father especially during your agony in the Garden of Gethsemane in the hours before your cruel death. Why should my life be any different? Lord, when I suffer rejection, disease, unemployment, financial crises and heartbreak, I can unite these pains to yours. I can walk the road of Calvary with you. I have the choice: to give into depression and fear or accept that which I cannot change and look to you for the grace to imitate you, your mother and St. Agnes. Rather than deny you she accepted suffering and death. With your grace I too can walk the way of the cross for beyond Calvary is resurrection and rebirth into eternal life. Amen.
