Hebrews 2:14-18

Psalm 105

Mark 1:29-39

…he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every way…to expiate the sins of the people.  Heb. 2:17

Lord, we are entertained by movies and stories of superheroes who fight the bad guys and save their victims.  Their superpowers allow them to overcome the powers of evil.   You came to save us from slavery to sin and ultimate spiritual death.  You have the power to drive out demons and to cure diseases and to raise the dead.  But you accomplished your ultimate purpose not by using superpowers but by dying on the cross.  You became like us ordinary people.  You suffered like we do.  You experienced rejection, felt the pain of those you met, became hungry and perhaps even had the common cold and arthritis.  You became like me in every way except the sin part.  You were tempted but you chose to do the will of your Father in everything.  Lord Jesus, I believe you know exactly what I am going through in body, mind and spirit because you’ve been there.  Help me today to see you in the ordinary joys and sorrows of human life.  Show me how to pray first when confronted with temptation or a big decision like you did.  Thank you for being so much like us.  Amen.
