Hebrews 2:5-12

Psalm 8

Mark 1:21-28

O Lord, awesome is your name through all the earth!  Psalm 8:2

“What is this?  A new teaching with authority.”  Mark 1:27

Lord, the people in the synagogue that day knew all about authority.  They were under the physical authority of their Roman masters and the spiritual authority of the scribes and Pharisees.  And they believed that all around them were spirits many of which were evil.  You amazed them that day by teaching the truth about God with the authority of someone who knew Him intimately.  You would later point out that you and the Father are one.  You went on to demonstrate your divine power by freeing a man suffering from an evil spirit.  Lord, I accept your authority over me.  I beg you to peer into my heart and drive out any evil you find there.  You never abuse your authority as man does.  You went on to free all mankind from the grip of evil and death by giving yourself completely on the cross.  “O Lord, how awesome is your name through all the earth”.  Amen.
