February 5, 2017 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time-A

Isaiah 58:1-10

Psalm 112

1 Corinthians 2:1-5

Matthew 5:13-16

“your light must shine…to glorify your heavenly Father.”  Matthew 5:16

Your word today reminds me of the children’s jingle: “this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.”  When children are happy and secure they can’t help but show it.  The joy just comes out of them naturally.  Last Sunday your Gospel laid out the Beatitudes, the means for happiness for us.  Today you tell us to let our happiness show.  We’ve been saved by your cross and fed by the Eucharist, your own body and blood.  We are heirs to the kingdom and have the life of the Holy Spirit within us.  Every grace and blessing we need to live a happy, holy life is ours.  All is from you and all is for you.  How can I keep from singing?  May I today, radiate the joy of being loved and chosen as your light in the darkness.  Whether it’s to one person or many I can let my “little light shine”.  It’s not so hard when I realize that I shine with your light and not my own.  So when others see my light they see you.  Amen.
