Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19

Psalm 71

1 Corinthians 12:31—13:13

Luke 4:21-30

They will fight against you… Jer. 4:19

And they spoke highly of him and were amazed… Lk.4:2

Lord, your own neighbors and friends were greatly impressed with your sermon that day in the synagogue.  But only while you were telling them what they wanted to hear.   When you pointed out that you were not only the Messiah of the people of Israel but of all mankind they turned hostile and lost it.  They wanted to throw you off a cliff.  They couldn’t imagine salvation would be extended to anyone other than themselves.   You experienced the rejection of those closest to you.  This response was a preview of the hatred your message of love would have in their hearts.  A hatred that would eventually bring you to another hill and a cross.  Lord, I pray for the good news of your love for all of us can be the foundation of all I do.  Keep my heart open to the possibilities that come from giving people different that I am a break.  Make my love patient, kind and never jealous or selfish.   When I am hurt, like you were by your friends, help me to forgive and not hold resentments or grudges.  I trust in your grace to help me to love like you.  Amen.
