February 22, 2018 Thursday of the 1st Week in Lent-B THE CHAIR OF ST. PETER, APOSTLE

1 Peter 5:1-4

Psalm 23

Matthew 16:13-19

“Who do you say that I am?”  “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”  Mt. 16:15-16

Lord, this story of you and Peter tells us of the biggest, most important day in Peter’s life.  He passed the test.  While many others got it wrong, he got it right.  A wonderful revelation had been planted within him by God.  As a result of his faith, Peter was blessed by you and invited to a greater union with you and your followers.  He took some time to get it right but he persevered and figured it out in the end.  Lord, each Lent you call us to grow in faith.  You invite us to come closer to you and to become more of who you created each of us to be.  Is this the Lent you want me to change the way I pray, work, or serve?  Do you have a new relationship you want me to form?  Is there a harmful habit or attitude you desire for me to give away?  Will you reveal yourself to me in different or unexpected people?   Dear Jesus, I believe you are always preparing me for greater and more wonderful experiences of your love.  When I am ready, I trust in your grace to help me to get it right like Peter did.  Amen
