Genesis 11:1-9

Psalm 33

Mark 8:34-9:1

“What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?”  Mark 8:36

Lord, today you present us with a grave choice.  You place before us two standards of success in life.  We have the world’s measures of success:  accumulation of money and possessions.  Or maybe, for some, its power and influence.  For others its ease of life and pleasure.  On the other hand, you offer your measure of success.  That would be a life centered on doing the will of God in whatever form that takes.  Today’s a good day to think prayerfully on what God’s will is for me.  What is important to me and what drives me forward?  On what do I spend my time, energy and money?  What is the focus and passion of my life?  I have been created for a purpose and my life has meaning.  Lord, I’m honored that you have chosen me to follow you.  I must admit that I have not yet emptied myself of all obstacles to complete commitment to the will of our Father.  With your grace I can choose your path to success and life eternal.  May my commitment to you reflect your commitment to me.  Amen.
