December 8, 2018 THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Genesis 3:9-15, 20

Psalm 98

Ephesians 1:3-6, 11-12

Luke 1:26-38

“Why did you do such a thing?” Gen. 3:13

“May it be done to me according to your word.”  Lk. 1:38

Lord, the story of the disobedience of the first man and woman is in stark contrast to the complete obedience and trust of Mary.  Eve chose her own way while Mary gave herself fully to God’s way.  But due to your plan from the very beginning, Mary’s “yes” to the angel was the beginning of the reconciliation of man to God.   Mary was prepared to be the Mother of the Savior and Redeemer of the world.  Only a spotless vessel could carry the Lord of the universe to birth.  It’s so amazing that Mary, despite not knowing all her “yes” would involve, gave herself fully to your plan.  As Mary was chosen, I have been chosen too.  Lord, increase in me the understanding that I am a part of your plan of salvation in a unique way.  I too am a “God bearer” to my family, workplace, community and parish.  Help me to give myself to you in whatever way you desire.   And thank you for giving me so pure and wonderful a mother. Help me not to be afraid because I too have found favor with you.  Amen.
