Isaiah 26:1-6
Psalm 118
Matthew 7:21, 24-27
Trust in the Lord forever! Is. 26:4
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. Ps. 118:8
“…a wise man who built his house on rock.” Mt. 7:24
Lord, trust in you as our rock of refuge is one of the most repeated appeals in the bible. The holy books over and over again urge us to depend on you for everything. You are perfectly reliable in everything you do for us. All your attention to us is solely for our own good. You know completely what is best for us, even better than we do. It can sometimes be hard to trust when events go wrong in our lives: a spouse or child dies, we lose a job, become ill, or suffer a huge financial setback. It takes faith to see your presence in our suffering. But as the bible says, that is what we must do. Lord, help me to build my house on you. Show me how you will strengthen me when the winds and floods of life try to overwhelm me. Be my place of refuge when humans let me down or disappoint me. The psalm continues: “my strength and my courage is the Lord, and he has been my savior. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” Amen.
