When Jesus saw their faith… Lk. 5:20
Lord, you could have healed this paralytic with a word or a touch and went right on teaching. But you saw many things in the house that day. You saw the skepticism and doubt in the hearts of the Pharisees and teachers of the law. You saw the broken and useless body of the paralytic. You saw the faith of those who carried him to you. But you also saw the man’s sin. Everyone expected you to heal his body but you first forgave his sin for that was your priority. You had to be very pleased with the faith of this man’s friends for going the extra mile in lowering him through the roof. So you went the extra mile too by healing his body and his soul. Lord, you exceeded the hopes of the paralytic and everyone in the room. You give us what we need and, more importantly, what you see as the priority in life. Help me to be joyful in how you heal or restore or forgive because you know what’s good for me. I long for you to exceed my expectations every day. Amen.
