2 Thessalonians 2:1-3, 14-17

Psalm 96

Matthew 23:23-26

May our Lord Jesus Christ…encourage your hearts and strengthen them… 2Thes. 2:16-17

Lord, we all need encouragement to do our best.  We also rely on your strength to help us avoid temptations that we know will come.  We know how we have failed in the past and really what we must do to not fall again.  But it’s hard, Lord, as you know.  Today you warn us about the hypocrisy of good appearances hiding a heart that is in darkness.  Our church sadly has experienced this among certain leaders who concealed evil. There is a feeling of betrayal among your children.  Lord, we desperately need your strength and the power and hope of the Holy Spirit right now to keep us strong and faithful.  Help us to resist the temptations of discouragement and despair.  Show us all what’s good and right among your holy clergy.  Unite us in our work to build your kingdom on this earth.  Do not let us quit but make our desire to persevere even stronger.  Dear Jesus, forgive those who have hurt others and encourage those who have been harmed.  I know you will keep your promise to be with us until the end of time.  Amen.
