Simon Peter answered him: “Master, to whom shall we go?” John 6:68
Lord, we hear today about two men who had a decision to make. Joshua and the Israelites had to choose who to follow as they faced the huge challenges of a new land and hostile nations. Peter had just heard what seemed impossible: that you were the bread of life and that unless he would eat your flesh and drink your blood he would not inherit eternal life. Lord, you ask us for a commitment too. We can either look to the world for security and hope in our own abilities and accomplishments or we can trust in your word as our truth and your offer of everlasting life. The first is the easiest road because the second leads to the cross. Lord, you know how weak I am and how I can be influenced by human promises. Build up my faith in you as my Savior, my Lord and my God. Give me a singular focus on doing the will of the Father and following you no matter where you lead me. May my Mother Mary be my model so I can say “yes” as she did throughout her life. Amen.
