August 24, 2018 Friday of the 20th Week in Ordinary Time-B ST. BARTHOLOMEW, APOSTLE

Revelation 21:9-14

Psalm 145

John 1:45-51

“Come and see.”  John 1:46

Lord, having just met you, Phillip can’t wait to tell his friend Nathaniel, aka Bartholomew, about you.  Initially Bartholomew has doubts but after encountering you, his conversion and walk with you began.  You knew him before you met him.  Bartholomew, under the fig tree, already was looking for you in the scriptures.  He called you “teacher” and began a journey where you would reveal to him who you really were: the divine Messiah and Son of God.  You told him “keep watching.  Have faith.  You haven’t seen anything yet!”  Lord, I want the excitement of meeting you and seeing you today.  I will look for you in the awesome beauty of the sunrise, the laugh of a child, the greeting of a close friend, in your inspired word and the whisper of an offered prayer.  I will meet you in the homeless man hungry for a meal, the single mom struggling to keep her family safe, and the heavenly sound of a symphony.  I too am on a journey of discovery of what your desire for me.  Bartholomew went on to be a great missionary apostle.  What wonders will you show me today?  St. Bartholomew, pray for us.  Amen.
