Daniel 13:1-9, 15-17, 19-30, 33-62

Psalm 23

John 8:12-20

They suppressed their consciences; they would not allow their eyes to look to heaven. Dan.13:9

“I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness…” John 8:12

Lord, the two elders in Daniel and the Pharisees in John suffered from the same problem.  Each of them “suppressed their consciences” therefore they couldn’t see the evil they were planning.  They no longer could see right from wrong because they did “not allow their eyes to look to heaven.”  To them wrong became right because of their passion and prideful ways.  You offered yourself as the lantern to light their way to goodness and justice.  Each of them was willing to sacrifice an innocent woman or you for their own ends.  Thank you for the still small voice of my conscience.  I too have been guilty at times by suppressing it and choosing darkness over light.  Forgive me Jesus for not following your light to holiness.  I pray you will form my conscience so it is a strong guide for my decisions.  My relationship with you is the key to knowing your will. Keep me close to you as we approach the holiest week of Lent.  When in doubt may I turn to Holy Scripture and your Church to direct my conscience.  Help me to listen to it.  Amen.
