April 6, 2017 Thursday of the 5th Week in Lent-A
“…I am making you the father of a host of nations.” Genesis 17:5
“…whoever keeps my word will never see death.” John 8:51
Lord, such awesome promises you make! It’s only through your gift of faith that I can accept such impossible ideas. Abraham was blessed with a faith that you could and would make him, despite his age and his wife’s infertility, the father of nations. Then you promised eternal life to those who believe in you and who keep faithful to your word. Lord, with my human logic this is all too much. That’s where trust in you comes in. Trust that you can and will do the impossible. Who would ever believe that God would lower himself to become one of us? Then he would give his life on a cross for his sinful children? Then rise from the dead so we could rise too. Lord, increase my trust in your commitment to your covenant with me. I believe all your promises, as impossible as they may appear. Amen.
