But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father… 1 John 2:1

Lord, I wish I had been there in the upper room when you appeared to your followers.  I can’t imagine the rush of emotions, the intense burning questions, the fear and the joy that swept through that room.  Would you punish them for their cowardice?  Would you reject them as not suitable to be your followers?  How would you treat Peter for his denial of you?  “Peace be with you” were the words you spoke to calm them down.  I have denied you and rejected your way.  I have let you down so many times I can’t count them.  I keep failing the same ways time after time.  Just as you didn’t reject your sinful followers, you do not reject me.  You have become my Advocate before the Father of mercies in heaven to plead my case.   I have the best lawyer possible in you Lord, I thank you for not treating me as I deserve.  I thank you for showering me with your mercy and forgiveness.  I beg for the grace to continue my walk with you.  Help me have true sorrow for my sins and a firm desire for change as I grow in faith and trust in you.  Amen.
