You who fear the Lord, give praise!  Psalm 22:24

Jesus…emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness and found human in appearance, he humbled himself becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.  Philippians 2:5-8

Lord, your decision was made long ago. From your throne in heaven you looked upon your sinful, ungrateful, defiant, prideful, and lost children. How wretched and evil we are! The choice was between destruction or salvation. Out of love you came to our rescue. Out of immense love you left behind the glory of heaven and took on a body with all its limitations, its smell, its pain and weaknesses. You endured hunger, tiredness, sickness and death. You left the eternal praise of countless angels for the rejection and scorn of mankind who cried out “crucify him.” You came from heaven to earth so we could go from earth to heaven. You let yourself be hated so we could learn what real love looks like. Lord, you have held nothing back from me. Help me to hold nothing back from you.  On this holy day, the first of a holy week, I give myself to you completely, fully, always. I bend my knees along with all creation to profess you as my Lord and my God. As you chose to become like me, with your grace, may I become like you.  Amen.
