The devil said to him… “All this will be yours if you worship me.” Lk. 4:7
Lord, during your time in the desert you had a very human experience. You faced hunger, loneliness, cold and heat and you were tempted to sin by Satan. Like Adam and Eve, you were told the lie that sin isn’t so bad. In fact, the lie continues that the consequences of sin can actually be good for you. Unlike our first parents, you prevailed over temptation. It wasn’t even a fair fight. Lord, because you are like us in every way you know the challenges, we face in rejecting the lure to sin. The lies can be so attractive and even compelling. As I enter the desert of Lent, I pray for the grace to identify the lies told me by the world, the devil and myself. Help me to not be discouraged by setbacks but to keep faith in your constant love and your powerful grace. Empty me dear Lord of anything that doesn’t give you glory. Then fill me with what does. Thank you, Jesus, for showing me the way and leading me through the desert this Lent. Amen.
