1 Peter 1:3-9

Psalm 111

Mark 10:17-21

…our Lord Jesus Christ who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope.  1 Pt. 1:3

Jesus, looking at him, loved him… Mark 10:21

Lord, I too want to know what I must do to inherit eternal life with you. Is there anything I can do to inherit what you won for me on the cross? You first told the rich man to obey the commandments. Lord, forgive me for the many times I have not lived an obedient life and have chosen to not be guided by your commandments. I have tried, really, I have. But in my weak moments I confess to yielding to temptation.  Despite that, you look on me with love. A love that isn’t diminished by my mistakes, unfaithfulness or indifference. A love that couldn’t be greater or lesser. You then tell the man, who “has many possessions” to give away what is separating him from you. You ask me for total dedication, undistracted faithfulness and complete love. I thank you for your great mercy. I also embrace the hope of eternal life which comes from your resurrection. Lord help me see whatever is holding me back from you. Give me the strength of will to throw my burdens and self-imposed obstacles aside and freely follow you.  Amen
