The fruit of a tree shows the care it has had; so too does one’s speech disclose the bent of one’s mind. Sirach 27:6
“…for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks.” Lk. 6:45
Lord, we have a saying that goes something like this: “Inside each of us are two wolves: a good wolf and an evil wolf. The wolf that wins in the one we feed!” Today your word teaches us the importance of kind and peaceful words and generous and loving actions. Our words express the condition of our mind. Our actions reveal the state of our heart. A healthy mind and heart come from good care and being open to your word. When we feed the good wolf and starve the evil one we will produce good fruit. The sacraments of your Church provide all the grace we need to cultivate good minds and good hearts. Your word is the spiritual food that feeds our minds and hearts. It teaches us the transforming truth so we can speak words of encouragement and perform deeds that witness to your love for all of us. May we allow you to purify us of all that is not from you. I pray that my words today will give you thanks and my actions will give praise to your name, O Lord. Amen.
