James 1:1-11
Psalm 119
Mark 8:11-13
Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, James 1:2
Lord, we should have joy when encountering trials and tribulations, really? Most of us want an easy peaceful life free of trouble and distress. James was writing to a Jewish-Christian community that was being persecuted. They were being attacked for being your disciples. His point is that testing of our faith “produces perseverance.” He goes on to encourage us to ask you for wisdom and patience to hang in when times get tough. We can even be tempted to doubt for it is a part of our human nature. When suffering is looked upon with the eyes of faith it can take on higher meaning and purpose. I believe that you only want the best for me. If you allow me to suffer it can be a hidden blessing. Like an athlete in training, my faith can grow and become perfect when it is exercised and tested. I can then face the next trial with confidence and hope and maybe even some joy. Lord, you have already equipped me to deal with doubts and temptations. May I not be tossed about like the waves of the sea but trust in the power of your word and your grace. Amen
