Sirach 47:2-11
Psalm: 18
Mark 6:14-29
You have given great victories to your King. Psalm 18:51
He went off and beheaded him in prison. Mk. 6:27
Lord, that’s what we seek—victory. Next weekend we will watch two teams at the Super bowl each striving for victory. Both will compete to the fullest to prevail and win the trophy. We are all seeking victory in life. King David achieved victory over his enemies and his own weaknesses. He honored you as his savior, his rock and his strength. He admitted his sin and was grateful for your forgiveness. He sang your praises at every opportunity. Likewise, John the Baptist spoke of your coming as the long-awaited Messiah. In the eyes of the world he died a loser, but in your eyes he was victorious. Lord, you have led me to many victories too. With you at my side, I have come through many trials and troubles. I have fallen many times into darkness and sin but you have picked me up and led me to the light. I’m so grateful for your faithfulness to me because you have fulfilled every one of your promises. Lord, I look forward to victory today, not through my own strength but through yours. Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.
