Psalm 54

James 3:16—4:3

Mark 9:30-37

The wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable…James 3:17

“If anyone wishes to be first he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.”  Mk. 9:35

Lord, I’ve noticed that the best leaders are those who care about their followers. Whether it be politics, business, community affairs or the family the best are those who put others first. You told your friends and us that to be great one must be a servant. You told us that you became man not to be served but to serve. And then you did just that in the ultimate act of service and surrender-your death on the cross. Every day, Lord, I’m presented with the choice of serving or being served. In my family, workplace, club, church or community opportunities arise for giving or taking. Your make clear what the right way is. It takes practice, discipline, and a change of attitude to accept a lower place. Spiritual wisdom teaches us the pure, heavenly way to peace and ultimately to you. With your grace I can do it!  Lord, I look to the examples of you, your Mother Mary and the saints to show me the path to be number one, a better servant. I pray for a servant heart. I am confident you will hear and answer my prayer.  Amen.
