…let us stay alert and sober. 1 Thes. 5:6
Lord, as I begin this day I routinely review in my head what lies ahead. I check my schedule for appointments, events, and other activities. I get up early enough to be where I need to be. One day after another this is my pattern. I give little thought to the possibility that you may call me home today. Maybe it would be good to put Paul’s advice on my bathroom mirror as I prepare myself for the day. Maybe I should give some thought to my readiness, not for my schedule, but for yours. Maybe I should plan to live each day as if it were my last. That plan would surely consist of prayer and reflection on how I am living the time you have given me. That plan may include Mass. It may include reconciling with a family member or neighbor. It may include encouraging someone who needs it. Lord, each day widen my view to include my preparation and readiness to meet you. Prepare me with your grace to confess my sins and to do penance for them. Thank you, dear Jesus, for walking with me today. Amen.
