This was a night of vigil for the Lord, as he led them out of the land of Egypt… Ex. 12:42
Lord, today’s Exodus reading says: “They had rushed out of Egypt and had no opportunity even to prepare food for the journey.” The people must have felt great excitement after being freed from the bondage of slavery to Pharaoh. But at the same time there must have been a lot of uncertainty about the journey ahead. They left in such a hurry that they didn’t make proper preparations. They knew little of what would lie ahead of them. They had trust in Moses and Aaron and also the God who kept vigil over them that night. Lord, you keep vigil over me too and I thank you for that. You are alert to my needs and provide strength to overcome any obstacles that may try to prevent me from doing your will. As you split the Red Sea for your people to escape to freedom you open the road ahead of me to the new and abundant life you want me to live. You offer peace to calm my fears and guidance to direct my steps. Even when I doubt you maintain your vigil and are ever ready to fulfill your promises. I believe you have good things planned for me. Amen.
