Genesis 28:10-22
Psalm 91
Matthew 9:18-22
“Truly, the Lord is in this spot, although I did not know it!” Gen. 28:16
Lord, Jacob was fleeing from his brother Esau who was out to kill him. In a deserted place Jacob had a dream and came to realize that God was with him. Knowing this, he declared that wherever he went could become a holy place. It’s easy to feel holiness in mighty cathedrals and holy sites in Israel. The presence of God makes even ordinary and unexpected places holy. My home can be a holy place when I pray and reflect on your word. It can be a holy place when I teach my children or grandchildren about your love. Lord, your name Emmanuel means “God is with us.” I share in the promise you made to Jacob: “I will never leave you.” Dear Jesus, you are God made flesh who makes your home among us and dwells with us. I always want to be near you. Keep me close and protect me and my home from all harm like you did Jacob. Please bless wherever I go and whatever I do. Do not let me become so distracted with the things and places of this world that I forget your holy and sacred presence. Amen.
