Ezra 6:7-8

Psalm 122

Luke 8:19-21

“My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”  Lk. 8:21

Lord, in the late ‘70s there was a popular song titled: “We are Family.”  It celebrated the family of mankind.  We are all your children and that makes us family: sisters and brothers.  You did not intend to “put down” your family when they came to see you.  You actually enlarged the concept of family as more than blood relationship.  Your point is: as children of our Father, we are your family when we listen closely to his word and then make it a part of our lives.   You radically redrew the boundaries of family.  Thank you for including me in your family, dear Jesus.  Your mother Mary and your cousins who came looking for you.  They all were devoted to God’s will and it formed the foundation for their lives.   Brothers and sisters who share your word and then act on it together are more closely bonded than blood can make them.  Help me to see that “we are family” when we let you guide and grace us to be your disciples and witnesses in the world.  Quiet my heart to be open to your will for me and my new family.  Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.
